When I think of Easter, I think of pastel colors, the gathering of extended family that I love but don't get to see very often, good food, sweet treats, and of course, the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Classic Easter activities include going to church in the morning and then gathering with loved ones for a delicious meal and hunting for Easter eggs, but if you want this Easter to be a little different, there are lots of non-traditional things to do.
Egg People
One activity we always enjoy is to make "egg people." Take raw eggs and carefully chop the tops off (use the eggs to make breakfast). Rinse the empty egg shells and set aside to dry. Put potting soil and a scattering of seeds (rye seeds work well because they grow so quickly) into each egg. Draw a face on the egg, or use googly eyes. Once the grass grows, your egg person will have a full head of green hair. You can style it or cut it! These always turn out so cute and are super fun to make.
Peeps S'Mores
Another cute idea for Easter that you've probably not done before is Peeps S'mores. You just make a classic S'more, except instead of a white marshmallow, use a brightly colored Peep. They are fun, cute and quite festive. (**Use caution when heating or roasting Peeps as the sugared outside can catch fire very quickly!)
Colored Devilled Eggs
You can put a twist on devilled eggs by placing the hard-boiled eggs, cut in half, in a glass jar with water and food coloring. Let them sit for about an hour until the eggs turn the desired color. Cut in half lengthwise and add the filling per your favorite recipe. You've got a classic Easter food, but with an adorable change to it.
Frosted and Sprinkled Pretzels
Frosted pretzel sticks are cute and yummy, too. You can make them by taking pretzel rods and dipping the end in frosting mixed with a little bit of water and then rolling the ends in sprinkles. Make them more festive by using sprinkles or sugars of pastel colors, or even ones that are shaped liked bunnies or chicks. You can also melt white chocolate, add food coloring and drizzle the pretzel rods with the mixture.
Rice Krispie Nests
You can also make Rice Krispie treats (the recipe is usually on the box), but shape them into nests. We sprayed a muffin tin with Pam, then used that to form the nest, since the mixture was hot. Once they cool, fill the nests with Peeps, malted milk eggs or jelly beans. Too cute!
